Vocational Rehabilitation is a process that enables persons with physical and/or cognitive impairments to overcome barriers in accessing, maintaining or returning to meaningful employment.

This is achieved through a team approach; the patient may be required to participate in various therapies and programs to achieve return to work.

A Functional Capacity Evaluation is used to establish a baseline of a person’s functioning, which is then used to determine a person’s job match. The Workwell is an objective battery used in this practice to determine the physical capabilities of the patient.

Worksite Analysis, is often used, to assess the job requirements, on a physical and cognitive level. It allows the Occupational Therapist to determine the suitability of returning to a position, to explore alternate positions and to suggest adaptations in the work environment which will facilitate return to work.
